You can reach the Dahlem Environmental Education Center in Jackson, MI by taking I-94 south. The exit is at Monroe, then turn left onto McDevitt Street. Continue on McDevitt to Kimmel and South Jackson roads. Follow the signs to the center, which is located inside the Fannie Beach Arboretum. Five miles of trails wind through prairie and mature forest, including a wooden boardwalk over a wetland. Some trails are barrier-free, and even wheelchair accessible. Myrna Berlet, a longtime environmental educator, photographer, wood carver and filmmaker, donated $250,000 to the Dahlem Environmental Education Center to benefit the region. Berlet taught at Jackson College for 32 years and won numerous awards. Her generous gift will benefit the Dahlem Conservancy and provide $250,000 annually to the center.
